2020 online productions
Each semester, students and staff in Concordia University's Department of Theatre direct plays, write scripts, design costumes and sets, devise collaborative performances, and explore new approaches to live performance. In March of 2020, the outbreak of COVID-19 forced the shutdown of three mainstage shows, along with numerous projects and outcomes.
This showcase is a snapshot of the work in progress at the time of that shutdown. You'll find scripts, audio dramas, designs, rehearsal recordings, and notes from the creators, all available to the public: A testament to the long hours of rehearsal, countless drafts and revisions, and driving creative spirit that was put into a semester of interrupted theatre.
Concordia's Department of Theatre offers three specializations that explore different facets of live performance and theatre
DESIGN FOR THEATRE
The Design for the Theatre program is designed to help students uncover their creative voice as they explore the many possibilities of scenography's art while meeting the challenges of creating entire worlds for live performance.
The Performance Creation program is a specialization that provides an introduction to many aspects of theatre, from writing, directing, production, dramaturgy and social-engaged practices, to exploring the possibilities of creating work in an ensemble.
ACTING FOR THE THEATRE
The Specialization in Acting for the Theatre is a program that offers a strong and challenging education that aims at training performers who can adapt to the many shapes that theatre and live performance can take today. Students in the program are trained to become both actors and creators who can contribute to an artistic production on several levels.
